König Ludwig Laufs' history goes back to 1968, being part of the Pro Tour from Season I 2010/2011 to Season V 2014/2015 and is now back in the series as a Visma Ski Classics Challengers event. The race is 50km in classic technique on February 2nd, 2020.
The event is the largest cross-country ski race in Germany and every year approximately 4000 skiers from around the world experience the famous and beautiful Ammergauer Alps region. The Challengers 50km long course crosses the world-famous Ettal Abbey through the Graswangtal Valley, to the Linderhof Castle and finishes at the Passion Play village in Oberammergau, in the Valley of King Ludwig II.
“König Ludwig Lauf is happy to be the German event of the Visma Ski Classics Challengers series. We are looking forward to welcoming skiers from the whole world to enjoy the fabulous tracks in the Ammergauer Alps. It’s good to be on board and have Pro Tour and recreational skiers on the start”, says Marc Schauberger, König Ludwig Lauf CEO.
König Ludwig Lauf is a three-day event and in addition to the 50km classic technique Challengers race, the event offers 12 races in total in different distances and techniques.
